Friday Finish - Seeing Double

Several months ago, my dear friend, Fi, announced she was pregnant . . . with twins . . . and they're both girls!  While I don't have kids, nor do I want any, I certainly enjoy making and buying baby things for friends! I mean, seriously, Target kills me with the baby cuteness!

Anyway,  I knew I wanted to make quilts for the babies.  (Confession:  Before she announced her pregnancy, I'd already made one baby quilt for Fi, though it's not one of these, and planned to finish another i had in the works, which I've since finished and gifted.)

I wanted to make similar, but not identical quilts for the girls, and I knew I wanted to use Anna Maria Horner fabric, which Fi loves.  I picked AMH's newest line, Pretty Potent, which worked out great, since Fi made crib skirts from part of this same line.

The first pattern I picked was Ravel.  I had to resize the blocks to make the size I wanted, and when I got all my blocks made, I realized I'd miscalculated and only had enough for HALF the quilt!  That meant I had to buy more fabric!

I quilted this one, which finished at 48" x 60", with a different design in each section.

For the second quilt, I picked this free pattern from the Art Gallery website:

I really just used the pattern for inspirations, making up my own similar blocks and putting them together with lots of negative space between.

I quilted this one, which finished at 46" x 57", with an all over design shown below.

And here's Fi with both quilts.  Isn't she just adorable?

Both quilts are just lovely. I know Fi was touched by the gesture, and your quilting! You have come so far on the FMQ!
