<br />it's that time of year again folks, where many of us set goals to achieve throughout the upcoming year.<br /><br />here's mine for 2015. you'll see some that carry over from 2014, because i did not succeed in achieving them last year, and some new ones as well!<br /><br />i'm breaking them down into categories again, as that worked well for me last year.<br /><br />financial:<br />1. make maximum contributions to pre-tax retirement funds<br />2. pay cash for a new car if this is the year the saturn dies<br /><br />health:<br />1. get back down to 140 lbs or less<br />2. get back into an exercise program 2-3 times per week, even if it's just going for a 15 minute walk!<br /><br />home:<br />1. paint interior (we bought the paint in 2014, but never picked colors and got it tinted!)<br />2. finish remodel of M's house<br /><br />quilting and sewing:<br />1. learn to use my serger - for reals this year<br />2. Get done with all pre-2014 WIPS!!! Finish at least one per month. <br />3. make at least 4 quilts for charity<br />4. finish medallion quilt by February<br />5. keep using the fabric i have instead of purchasing more, and limit new purchases<br />6. keep trying curves to master them!<br /><br />here's to a successful, happy and healthy 2015!</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr8iRehKzNEquP3JGwd2wuDb74mcRYQJMcgK3V-HO9eoYJzLodn4SeC_aybDiV5ULv4Ex4jzfDiqiYlPe9QobpS85IN76_YxCNJdsptu2K2oeYnhuL33NGzOqU9KJUmcLPQ8qXUI_OGsG_/s1600/2014+finished+quilts.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr8iRehKzNEquP3JGwd2wuDb74mcRYQJMcgK3V-HO9eoYJzLodn4SeC_aybDiV5ULv4Ex4jzfDiqiYlPe9QobpS85IN76_YxCNJdsptu2K2oeYnhuL33NGzOqU9KJUmcLPQ8qXUI_OGsG_/s1600/2014+finished+quilts.jpg" height="400" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I feel like I made a lot of quilts this year - twenty, not counting minis - but last year I made twenty-five. Some of these were started in 2014, some in 2013, and a few well before that! <br />
<br />
Looking back, I'm pleased with what I accomplished, though my numbers are less than in 2013. I finished things I never thought would get done (the hand pieced hexies baby quilt), and tried new things and stretched myself (the Color Party quilt, the pixelated scissors, and the Cross Stitch Sparkle quilt).<br />
<br />
I also seem to have done more selfish sewing, in that 40% of this year's quilts stayed with me or my husband, versus 20% from last year. That being said, I made a lot of mini quilts and other handmade items for lots of people this year.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAYYOP-w0pcEPWeFkXb665td0mzBZVEaT0xdGvV9kBvmd8azDdWeJ0v8aS_M15DDaZF203fgbjc7f0eakjuh4oKXs2xsS-8UVNLV90dIIBTN-A8rRjddnXFgfepCuXcT4P9dYorxHYShv3/s1600/Small+Objects+2014+-+partial.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAYYOP-w0pcEPWeFkXb665td0mzBZVEaT0xdGvV9kBvmd8azDdWeJ0v8aS_M15DDaZF203fgbjc7f0eakjuh4oKXs2xsS-8UVNLV90dIIBTN-A8rRjddnXFgfepCuXcT4P9dYorxHYShv3/s1600/Small+Objects+2014+-+partial.jpg" height="400" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I finished all but one of my 2013 WIPs, but I didn't make such great progress on my pre-2013 WIPS. I finished 4 of 9, made progress on another, but didn't touch the other four!<br />
<br />
I started 2014 with 9 WIPS, and ended the year with 8, so that's progress I suppose. That's four from before 2013, one from 2013, and three from 2014. <br />
<br />
Here's to a productive 2015!amy and the bad catshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15042273977020616874noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454710600363727176.post-10260609470787973442014-11-19T10:45:00.001-06:002014-11-19T10:45:18.174-06:00AWOL much?so, apparently i have a blog . . . a neglected blog. my only excuse is that the last month has been crazy. between quilt market, quilt festival, my birthday, mark's birthday, a quilt retreat, not to mention work, i just haven't had a chance to blog. even my mother called to tell me i hadn't blogged lately!<br />
<br />
so, here is a quick catch-up of what i've been doing:<br />
<br />
i bought all the pretty things at quilt market . . .<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://carolynfriedlander.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/doe-fabric-stack_carolyn-friedlander-for-robert-kaufman_web-788x525.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://carolynfriedlander.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/doe-fabric-stack_carolyn-friedlander-for-robert-kaufman_web-788x525.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
i took a fun class at quilt market and learned how to make these:</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
i made Mark a twin sized quilt to keep in his camper at the deer lease:</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I'm going to Quilt Market! I'm super excited, and I even whipped up a badge holder this week. I made one for a friend, too, but she took it away before I could photograph hers! I drafted my own pattern, and mine, being the first attempt, is not quite right. the portion at the bottom with the clear vinyl needed to be a wee bit taller, as the top part of my badge is hidden under the fabric edging. And I got the strap twisted once when I sewed it on. Oops. Liz's was much improved, being the right size, the strap not twisted, and even lined! <br />
<br />
Other than that, even though I haven't blogged, I've been busy. Remember how September was the month of binge-sewing City Gym Shorts? Well, this month, Santa's Little Sweatshop geared up here in Houston, and I've been binge-sewing Divided Baskets from the pattern by <a href="http://www.noodle-head.com/" target="_blank">Anna Graham (aka Noodlehead)</a>.<br />
<br />
Back in September, I made the first one for a birthday swapping club I'm in, and was amazed at how simple the pattern was!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigE5BCcFKG3mvTqfQuYfqwlcvemgnQAP0_MHIMZwdDi44PzFiq0IjZfLgkO0eiA04svuDzg8jU1M23M7yL6JI0SneiJ33kirh_FctpmxygsmpMrI2UyaNsAfpEoJcgq7q1RfhKOu9KHqL1/s1600/IMG_1614.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigE5BCcFKG3mvTqfQuYfqwlcvemgnQAP0_MHIMZwdDi44PzFiq0IjZfLgkO0eiA04svuDzg8jU1M23M7yL6JI0SneiJ33kirh_FctpmxygsmpMrI2UyaNsAfpEoJcgq7q1RfhKOu9KHqL1/s1600/IMG_1614.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Then I made one to give to a friend later in the year:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWUQljnHfpPMPLYXo17O4X1rTHtBH7pvH48xV4KJuXi8nEF8b13-132r_cIVFZ1TqiEGZQGPL44xtYhxCxnTtn9aDAfiX8ISQhvtkB4BlURS4JZOrNRJT5madZN5TKGnlaYNqRFw2XUtWZ/s1600/IMG_1623.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWUQljnHfpPMPLYXo17O4X1rTHtBH7pvH48xV4KJuXi8nEF8b13-132r_cIVFZ1TqiEGZQGPL44xtYhxCxnTtn9aDAfiX8ISQhvtkB4BlURS4JZOrNRJT5madZN5TKGnlaYNqRFw2XUtWZ/s1600/IMG_1623.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And another for a birthday present:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimdQyH24wwlLh4-PCy89jm67JkYoi-TBuD0jkd74GJPmKnIN8czqPbv1uV4fnc1FIV0LBVJ8Sppb2HdVanYi6PmfAfdUq1fXVAismLOTKdE_mRfgnhIRqfiU493309xYup_jI3ekN3Deyz/s1600/IMG_1705.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimdQyH24wwlLh4-PCy89jm67JkYoi-TBuD0jkd74GJPmKnIN8czqPbv1uV4fnc1FIV0LBVJ8Sppb2HdVanYi6PmfAfdUq1fXVAismLOTKdE_mRfgnhIRqfiU493309xYup_jI3ekN3Deyz/s1600/IMG_1705.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Then one for the Ghastlies swap:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdiiPacLc9nu431fkhur5XHRUsnYzmyWlyQy2yIRNxnpbzrwa8ouX-MLZT4pHAsjwNQddzlQs5-vM7Cbp03cz8rqlvXXrzRZ_mtdidUBC4dxBk9viEwYMFVu3TGNz-iEWS5Yod7wa7iTga/s1600/IMG_1690.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgdiiPacLc9nu431fkhur5XHRUsnYzmyWlyQy2yIRNxnpbzrwa8ouX-MLZT4pHAsjwNQddzlQs5-vM7Cbp03cz8rqlvXXrzRZ_mtdidUBC4dxBk9viEwYMFVu3TGNz-iEWS5Yod7wa7iTga/s1600/IMG_1690.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And another Ghastlies one for a friend:</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgubLUDapeMZahOVZBPAIm-K_zkv_wMcCJ1QS4yfAIPnmNoqjSw-A1143X2doAKRR36QpmQu7_yrFAcXeMJ4w8-gblgDFh3FeLqsJPofSlisKB5DeI4NI422bJZ4TJR3b5OVv3SQYJDEH6c/s1600/IMG_1704.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgubLUDapeMZahOVZBPAIm-K_zkv_wMcCJ1QS4yfAIPnmNoqjSw-A1143X2doAKRR36QpmQu7_yrFAcXeMJ4w8-gblgDFh3FeLqsJPofSlisKB5DeI4NI422bJZ4TJR3b5OVv3SQYJDEH6c/s1600/IMG_1704.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
Then I FINALLY made one for myself:<br />

All total, I've now made FOURTEEN of these super darling baskets! I know I need at least ten or twelve more, I'm having such fun choosing fabrics from my stash for these. All of them aren't to my taste, but they're presents for other people, so I've tried to make baskets I think they will like. They're a great stashbuster, at 1.5 yds of fabric per basket, too!</div>

Weeks ending 10/11 and 10/18:<br />
<br />
Stash Acquired:<br />
<br />
1.5 yds lizzy house jewels in coral and green<br />
<br />
I ordered 3 yards of fabric to make a dress (so it doesn't count towards stash), and it wasn't quite enough dollar wise to get free shipping. so either i had to pay $7.95 shipping, or i could buy another yard and a half of fabric (less than $12 on sale) and get free shipping. SO I ordered some nice stash basics.<br />
<br />
Stash Used/Disposed of:<br />
<br />
9 yds for six divided baskets<br />
1 yd for Kitty Mini Quilt Swap mini and fabric gifts<br />
1.5 yds for cathedral windows pillow and binding<br />
TOTAL: 11.5 yrds<br />
<br />
I'd say this was a pretty good week for stash busting!amy and the bad catshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15042273977020616874noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454710600363727176.post-30725042294754601892014-10-06T09:22:00.000-05:002014-10-06T09:22:09.497-05:00Saturday Stash Status - The Really, Really Late Edition<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

My first finish for today,chronologically speaking, is my Feathers Quilt, made from an Alison Glass Designs pattern. I participated in a QAL for this quilt back in January/February, and finished the top within the time of the QAL, but then I just couldn't decide how to quilt it. Finally, I decided to have my friend Pam quilt it on her long arm. Pam always does amazing work, and I knew that together we could come up with a fantastic plan for my quilt. I wasn't wrong! I love how the quilting turned out so much! It's a nice size, at 55" x 66" and so snuggly soft!<br />

My second finish was my Cross Stitch Sparkle quilt, which I made pattern testing for Sara Peterson of Knotty Gnome. You can see my quilt on <a href="http://blog.knottygnome.com/" target="_blank">her blog</a> today, along with info on purchasing the pattern on Craftsy! My quilt finished at 54" x 54", and I wish I'd made it even bigger, although I was pretty sick of trimming all those half square triangles!amy and the bad catshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15042273977020616874noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454710600363727176.post-65899314219186680132014-10-01T11:41:00.000-05:002014-10-01T11:41:25.257-05:002014 in Review - 3rd Quarter Status Report<span style="background-color: white; color: #393939; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18.4799995422363px;">Wow! <br style="background-color: white; color: #393939; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18.4799995422363px;" />

I finally got Pam to quilt it on her long arm, then got the binding done and got it finished in late August. Not exactly "promptly" by any stretch of the imagination, but at least it's done!</span><br />
<br style="background-color: white; color: #393939; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18.4799995422363px;" />

My original usage goal was 200 yards, which I've achieved, but when I went bonkers with the fabric purchases, I upped my goal. Quilt Market and Quilt Festival are just around the corner and sure to be filled with too many temptations!</span><br />

<br style="background-color: white; color: #393939; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18.4799995422363px;" />

I've really been wanting to make a medallion quilt, and I'm waffling between using these fabrics or making it scrappy.</span><br />
<br style="background-color: white; color: #393939; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18.4799995422363px;" />

But #7 is definitely achievable by the end of the year. Now let's see what I can accomplish in the 4th quarter of 2014!</span><br />

Well, kids, I got my Cross Stitch Sparkle Quilt finished over the weekend, and <a href="http://jaceycraft.blogspot.com/" target="_blank">Jacey</a> kindly came over this morning and took photos of it (and my Feathers quilt), so you'll be seeing both of those soo.<br />
<br />
I also made a Ghastlies Divided Basket from the pattern by Anna Graham (aka Noodlehead). I just love this pattern! it's so much easier thanyou'd think and goes together so quickly!<br />
<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I have plans to meet a friend for some sewing on Sunday, and I plan to make a similar one to keep for myself.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And while I still haven't picked a pattern for my miniquilt for the Kitty Mini Swap, I have gotten a better feel for what my partner likes, and I've started selecting fabrics. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Goals for this week:</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
1. Select and cut background fabric for yellow & grey string quilt</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
2. Make a divided basket for myself</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
3. Package and mail Ghastlies Swap package to my partner</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Not too ambitious of a week, but I've got a lot of work stuff going on this week, and sometime during the next two and a half weeks I have to do our 2013 tax return. yikes!</div>

while i've totally failed at sticking to my fabric acquisition goals for the year, i'm not doing so badly on fabric usage.</div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNOPC9XhYWQROttXsNt14P5mYbh1yrhyphenhyphenm3kpSCWIPoJ3WSV10tc3j6Mt_b084Mt8QACVii_tSDagJYdYKVZKQfoPGQG73jAKaI0HAEPVUHymjFR2kXAgnbuknUZ7CC_n72v7DxjEchHyhn/s1600/Housewarming+Churn+Dash_01.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgNOPC9XhYWQROttXsNt14P5mYbh1yrhyphenhyphenm3kpSCWIPoJ3WSV10tc3j6Mt_b084Mt8QACVii_tSDagJYdYKVZKQfoPGQG73jAKaI0HAEPVUHymjFR2kXAgnbuknUZ7CC_n72v7DxjEchHyhn/s1600/Housewarming+Churn+Dash_01.JPG" height="400" width="387" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I've had several quilt finishes lately, but haven't gotten around to sharing for one reason or another. The first finish I'm sharing today is a churn dash quilt I made as a housewarming present for my friend <a href="http://safieh.wordpress.com/" target="_blank">Safieh</a>. I killed two birds with one stone with this quilt, because it was also made testing the Kwik-ly Churned About Pattern from <a href="http://www.twokwikquilters.net/" target="_blank">Two Kwik Quilters</a>. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I love the pattern because it gives instructions for multiple sizes of churn dash blocks, then shows combinations to use for a variety of sizes of quilts. if none of the layouts strikes your fancy, you can easily combine blocks to form your own design, as the blocks are sized in multiples of 3" so that they all play nicely together!</div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I was in such a rush to finish this and gift it to Safieh that I didn't take any pictures! She was kind enough to take these so I could blog about my finish!</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Last week I finally drank the kool-aid, and made a pair of <a href="http://www.purlbee.com/2014/07/24/corinnes-thread-city-gym-shorts-for-all-ages/" target="_blank">city gym shorts</a>, but only to wear as pjs. I loved them so much I made three more. Then two more. And finally a pair out of fabric I could wear out of the house. Yeah. They're that easy and that comfortable!<br />
<br />

<br />
It's kind of hard to pick a favorite, but if I had to, I think I'd pick the flannel zebras with glasses. The dia de los muertos ones are a close second, though.<br />
<br />
I really want to make more, but come on, how many pairs do I really need! I did print out the kids sized pattern, too, though, so I can make some for my niece!<br />
<br />
I've been plugging away on my Cross Stitch Sparkle blocks, and I hope to have the top finished by Tuesday, so I can baste it and get it quilted by the end of next weekend.<br />
<br />
Goals for the week:<br />
<br />
1. get Cross Stitch Sparkle top assembled, basted and quilted<br />
2. Ghastlies divided basket<br />
3. decide on a pattern for Kitty Mini for swap.amy and the bad catshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15042273977020616874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454710600363727176.post-20787469954034382782014-09-21T15:06:00.001-05:002014-09-21T15:06:50.779-05:00Saturday Stash Status<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
yeah. i bought fabric. oops.<br />
<br />
week ending 9-20-2014:<br />
<br />
Fabric acquired: 8 yds (pictured above)<br />
10 yds widescreen architextures backings in grey, blue, mustard and white<br />
TOTAL: 18 yds acquired<br />
<br />
Fabric used:<br />
1.5 yds hexy plus table topper<br />
1.00 yd tote bag for HMQG swap<br />
8.75 yds seven pairs of city gym shorts!<br />
TOTAL: 11.25 yds used<br />
<br />
I have got to quit buying fabric, or start destashing! my purchases this week were a) specific fabrics for city gym shorts, b) some low volume to replenish stash, c) basic almost-solids to replenish stash, and d) wide backings, so I don't always have to piece backings. good reasons for purchases, but i'm WAY over my goal for this year!amy and the bad catshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15042273977020616874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454710600363727176.post-12732592336935321732014-09-13T13:36:00.002-05:002014-09-13T13:36:34.485-05:00Saturday Stash Status - Cutest Fabric EVER Edition<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
I went to a quilt show yesterday, and I only bought 2 yards of the fabric pictured above! I couldn't resist, because cats. who love to read. and wear glasses. and I had to buy two yards, because what if I want to make something like, say, a pair of city gym shorts, or pjs, or . . . you get my drift, right? I probably should have bought four yards.<br />
<br />
At any rate, I made two divided baskets this week, so that used up two yards of fabrics, making this week is a wash. <br />

i know it's been a while, but i can assure you i've been busy! i'm transitioning from one job to another, so balancing both has been stressful, in addition to keeping me busy. i have squeezed in sewing time, though!<br />
<br />
i have three finished quilts that were completed during the last two weeks. one i gifted BEFORE i took pictures, so the recipient is supposed to take some for me. the other two i need to photograph, but it's been wet and nasty here almost every afternoon, and my pictures are bad enough without adding rain and overcast skies into the mix.<br />
<br />
while i can't show you the three larger quilts i finished, here's some of the smaller things i've finished up for some swaps i'm in:<br />

the fox pouch is from Issue 18 of Fat Quarterly, the zakka issue. i'd never done raw edge applique like this before, but i love how it turned out so much that i made a second pouch to keep for myself! i also made a mug rug for my partner, and have already put the mug rug, some fox fabric, and some other goodies inside the pouch so it's ready to mail soon.<br />
<br />
i made a unicorn mini (it measures approximately 12" wide and 10"tall), using some heather ross, some alison glass, and even some cotton + steel. i love the colors in this mini, and i hope my partner does, too!<br />
<br />
work is still going to be busy this week, and i'm scheduled for jury duty on tuesday! good thing i have a new cross stitch kit i can take to work on while i sit around and wait NOT to get picked.<br />
<br />
goals for the week:<br />
<br />
1. photograph baylor quilt and feathers quilt<br />
2. blog about one of the finishes<br />
3. make a backing for ghastlies quilt<br />
4. plan ghastlies mini<br />
<br />
here's to a productive week!amy and the bad catshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15042273977020616874noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454710600363727176.post-18081655969236777922014-08-25T20:31:00.000-05:002014-08-25T20:31:17.634-05:00The Weekly List<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
so, i was MUCH less productive than anticipated last week, mostly due to work. and then my sewing machine was screwing up, and i had to take it to the "spa" where it's now spending a few days.<br />
<br />
thanks to a good friend who loaned me her machine, which is the same as mine, i was able to finish quilting the churn dash quilt on saturday night, and sew the binding to the front on sunday.<br />
<br />
with my machine out of commission for at least most of this week, as well as a ton of stuff piling up on the work front, i've got limited sewing capacity this week.<br />
<br />
goals:<br />
<br />
1. hand stitch binding on churn dash quilt<br />
2. hand stitch binding on feathers quilt<br />
3. photograph both quiltsamy and the bad catshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15042273977020616874noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454710600363727176.post-3122195054359615682014-08-22T08:09:00.001-05:002014-08-22T08:09:10.259-05:00Saturday Stash Status - Oops I Did It Again<div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuHy4UXwLsq5YpRThP49tDzvhwF0yOay7mvT-z-HeK0gF1jzVaIJFyhDrXBFfiniyqxL5u94sAcdh_Ecx2tBQ_aHQv0VwZawxUZzVIgb_5iQ9cvDzIjt_j0twg1gAii9Hxry3hwkW4q7Vv/s640/blogger-image--1650885046.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjuHy4UXwLsq5YpRThP49tDzvhwF0yOay7mvT-z-HeK0gF1jzVaIJFyhDrXBFfiniyqxL5u94sAcdh_Ecx2tBQ_aHQv0VwZawxUZzVIgb_5iQ9cvDzIjt_j0twg1gAii9Hxry3hwkW4q7Vv/s640/blogger-image--1650885046.jpg"></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;"><br></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both;">A while back, Massdrop had an Allison Glass Field Day bundle, to which you could add on a bundle of the text prints from Sunprints and/or one of her patterns. I managed to accomplish the three items on my list last week, even though it was a sucky week.<br />
<br />
Our Miss Kitty passed away last week, so that kind of threw us off kilter, and both M and I have been pretty sad. In addition to that, we also just had a bunch of crap stuff that had to get done, so that kept both of us busy.<br />
<br />
I did finish the churn dash top, and got the background of the Baylor quilt pieced as well as got the smaller section for the monogram pieced. I also got a large pouch made for the birthday club i'm in and got it filled with goodies, packed up and in the mail.<br />
<br />
I've got a quilt retreat coming up this weekend, so hopefully I can get a lot accomplished there, even if I don't get much done beforehand. Also, I just spoke with <a href="http://www.pamquiltaholic.com/apps/blog/" target="_blank">Pam</a> who is quilting my Feathers quilt and I may be able to pick that up in time to take to the retreat and get the binding on!<br />
<br />
Goals for this week:<br />
<br />
1. make backing for churn dash quilt and baste<br />
2. quilt churn dash quilt and bind<br />
3. bind feathers quilt and photograph<br />
4. prep monogram for Baylor quilt<br />
5. piece backing and prep binding for Baylor quilt<br />
<br />
in retrospect that looks like a HUGE list, but I think I can get it done.amy and the bad catshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15042273977020616874noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5454710600363727176.post-82192992584726678052014-08-16T12:20:00.001-05:002014-08-16T12:20:22.322-05:00Saturday Stash Status - Yes, I Bought More Fabric<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

i changed up my goals from last week. Here's what i had planned:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="background-color: white; clear: both; color: #393939; font-family: Arial, Tahoma, Helvetica, FreeSans, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; line-height: 18.479999542236328px;">

Several months ago, my dear friend, Fi, announced she was pregnant . . . with twins . . . and they're both girls! While I don't have kids, nor do I want any, I certainly enjoy making and buying baby things for friends! I mean, seriously, Target kills me with the baby cuteness!<br />

Anyway, I knew I wanted to make quilts for the babies. (Confession: Before she announced her pregnancy, I'd already made one baby quilt for Fi, though it's not one of these, and planned to finish another i had in the works, which I've since finished and gifted.)<br />
<br />
I wanted to make similar, but not identical quilts for the girls, and I knew I wanted to use Anna Maria Horner fabric, which Fi loves. I picked AMH's newest line, Pretty Potent, which worked out great, since Fi made crib skirts from part of this same line.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIhamhhv1IbQ1RgCfwBcaZK4OnYv4HirN76qWTUKZF86SadS_CRbW2xOpp5YcIHCmTeAerER22LKJKvCxWpx3lC_stPmLZZpqLWI2P5mOP36yh-ffzev0CpsgKP7e1Z02kZBxja8rdruJc/s1600/IMG_1320.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjIhamhhv1IbQ1RgCfwBcaZK4OnYv4HirN76qWTUKZF86SadS_CRbW2xOpp5YcIHCmTeAerER22LKJKvCxWpx3lC_stPmLZZpqLWI2P5mOP36yh-ffzev0CpsgKP7e1Z02kZBxja8rdruJc/s1600/IMG_1320.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
The first pattern I picked was Ravel. I had to resize the blocks to make the size I wanted, and when I got all my blocks made, I realized I'd miscalculated and only had enough for HALF the quilt! That meant I had to buy more fabric!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEO5EKEPs8iK2LWG-kdFIiRrWIXxYYg37Z3exJoemv-i_a0Kmin2GLPS0PdHNiDSqjTpRqZs_JA5oN8_gmwj03jPKOcxdfvoRaSd23vlynLsVA-22yB-xW83wlwh8OM5awIBJDOLzScTGx/s1600/IMG_1321.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhEO5EKEPs8iK2LWG-kdFIiRrWIXxYYg37Z3exJoemv-i_a0Kmin2GLPS0PdHNiDSqjTpRqZs_JA5oN8_gmwj03jPKOcxdfvoRaSd23vlynLsVA-22yB-xW83wlwh8OM5awIBJDOLzScTGx/s1600/IMG_1321.JPG" height="320" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
<br />
I quilted this one, which finished at 48" x 60", with a different design in each section.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEyhjy_GR29erDRtod6MxObQFMbfmp12SumCWvqopVRaC_DnliOncXKY2-on3yaca3RtdODFmkAKSnkzkExs4nw_pwx5Re4rvisevuz-ObllDQpL6Vq39ojwfGTl_mIhXRvjh6NRzOuAJ1/s1600/IMG_1517.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiEyhjy_GR29erDRtod6MxObQFMbfmp12SumCWvqopVRaC_DnliOncXKY2-on3yaca3RtdODFmkAKSnkzkExs4nw_pwx5Re4rvisevuz-ObllDQpL6Vq39ojwfGTl_mIhXRvjh6NRzOuAJ1/s1600/IMG_1517.JPG" height="400" width="342" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
For the second quilt, I picked <a href="http://www.artgalleryfabrics.com/cgi-bin/fabricshop/projects.cgi?patternID=60" target="_blank">this free pattern</a> from the Art Gallery website:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://www.artgalleryfabrics.com/projects/images/dessert_arrows_coverWEB.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://www.artgalleryfabrics.com/projects/images/dessert_arrows_coverWEB.jpg" height="320" width="247" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I really just used the pattern for inspirations, making up my own similar blocks and putting them together with lots of negative space between.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0oL1PFZB1vuYF29If1olVD1kumnjrTtOR7E0WyRPwircb-D2yK8KpZHrq2Xa-lziTTy-D4EUjaFtm1x4fzHMx63pmzMcNo7QxrUKMST0VrzWmaaloS7e-EPC8NccfiRl_5CaBfNRMuTOa/s1600/IMG_1520.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0oL1PFZB1vuYF29If1olVD1kumnjrTtOR7E0WyRPwircb-D2yK8KpZHrq2Xa-lziTTy-D4EUjaFtm1x4fzHMx63pmzMcNo7QxrUKMST0VrzWmaaloS7e-EPC8NccfiRl_5CaBfNRMuTOa/s1600/IMG_1520.JPG" height="400" width="332" /></a></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
I quilted this one, which finished at 46" x 57", with an all over design shown below.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0_Hf2gVHlySZnEO7nBY3T9a1IeRNOcAyo98FG2nMxooLF_uXwQgaE4spFIpT7DWF4_kc081zzJDLPWspmIUvQ-690vL83fchEUEM1rGPgN0w6Fwxs7iRAe2WyaIBEHnzvxLMSP_czIJj1/s1600/IMG_1480.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg0_Hf2gVHlySZnEO7nBY3T9a1IeRNOcAyo98FG2nMxooLF_uXwQgaE4spFIpT7DWF4_kc081zzJDLPWspmIUvQ-690vL83fchEUEM1rGPgN0w6Fwxs7iRAe2WyaIBEHnzvxLMSP_czIJj1/s1600/IMG_1480.JPG" height="400" width="300" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
And here's Fi with both quilts. Isn't she just adorable?</div>

<br />
I may not have made a list for last week, but for the past two weeks I"ve been productive. I finished both Anna Maria Horner quilts, and gifted them to my dear friend Fi, who's having twin girls in about 7 weeks. Keep an eye out for pictures on Friday! I also started and finished the pixel scissors pattern I'd been wanting to make. I blogged about that <a href="http://houseofbadcats.blogspot.com/2014/07/friday-finish-one-with-bazillion-squares.html" target="_blank">here</a>. <br />
<br />
Some other smaller things got done, too. I made two pin cushions for the swap between members of the Emerald Coast Modern Quilt Guild and the Houston Modern Quilt Guild.<br />
<br />

I made a bunch of kits for the Houston Modern Quilt Guild Holiday Headstart that was held yesterday. Here's my finished set of four reversible cloth napkins, roll-up tote and re-usable produce bags from three of the mini-workshops.</div>

<br />
<br />
It all started right around midnight one Friday, when M was out of town fishing. I tend to keep weird hours when he's away and I don't have to worry about disturbing his sleep.<br />
<br />
I was itching to sew, but didn't really have anything I was working on. That's when I thought about the pattern by Katy Jones I'd seen in Issue Five of Love Patchwork & Quilting! I dug out my magazine and a stack of low volume fabrics and started cutting. And cutting. And cutting. There's 900 squares in this pattern, folks!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ-x534rfT-kWc5RvZdvo7zcf66ljMnB1b4x1-aThNhFEX5ld68Dxe5sz8j3nKncf3RHFbpF8z466YyP18EmgcwQ6w-JepMi452bM9_PtebQO6LFLjMtzSoQaXuqWeWKf1D07XYxN0lk9r/s1600/IMG_1470.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQ-x534rfT-kWc5RvZdvo7zcf66ljMnB1b4x1-aThNhFEX5ld68Dxe5sz8j3nKncf3RHFbpF8z466YyP18EmgcwQ6w-JepMi452bM9_PtebQO6LFLjMtzSoQaXuqWeWKf1D07XYxN0lk9r/s1600/IMG_1470.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
It wasn't long before I had several blocks pieced, and I had to make a decision on the color of the scissors. I was leaning towards a lovely turquoise, and had even pulled out my precious, hoarded Jay McCarroll fabrics from his first two lines. Then a friend convinced me to go with black like the pattern. Since I knew I had tons of black prints in my stash, I went for it.<br />
<br />

<br />
It took me a week and a half's worth of sewing to get all the blocks assembled, and along the way I had plenty of cat help.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I chose to quilt it in a simple crosshatch diagonally through each square, to go with the simplicity of the design. All total, I finished two weeks after I started, and I"m in love with my finished quilt! I used a large scale newspaper print I bought last fall in Istanbul for the backing, and I'm so glad that now my quilt will always remind me of that lovely trip.</div>
