Friday Finish

baby boy construction quilt

last week i showed you a pre-2011 WIP that i'd unearthed and wanted to get finished.

i had decided this rail fence quilt would be a great top on which to practice my FMQ.  just before i started to quilt it, though, i decided to test my skills even more and to use each block to try out a different free motion quilting design!

here are pictures of the quilting, in black and white to make it easier to see, from the back of the quilt:

FMQtrials

eight of the nine designs i used are by Leah Day from The Free Motion Quilting Project.  her blog is so awesome, with short little videos to show you how to work each design!

the back of my quilt ended up being all a solid royal blue, and i quilted using white thread.  this worked out great, as i could really see my stitches on the back side!  i didn't have any tension problems, but i definitely need a LOT more practice!  good thing i have 9 more rail fence blocks that i just stitched into a top wednesday and got basted last night!
