fantastic grocery shopping excursion
for the past two weeks, kroger has been having a mega sale, where you get $5 off for every 10 selected items you buy. i've had my coupons in order and my list prepped, but just hadn't made it to the store. i didn't want to wait until the last day (tomorrow) just in case i needed to get a raincheck for anything and i often shop after customer service has closed for the evening.
i went this afternoon, and this is what i got:
okay, so it's not a great picture, but here's my breakdown:
4 2L sodas
11 campbell's cream of chicken soup
2 campbell's chunky soup
2 campbell's harvest selections soup
4 ricola cough drops
4 stove top stuffing
2 dole fruit in jar
1 carefree liners
4 colgate toothbrushes
2 no yolks egg noodles
2 ronzoni healthy harvest egg noodles
5 athenos hummus
1 nilla wafers
1 velveeta
2 wholly queso
1 pint half and half kroger brand
4 idahoan mashed potato flakes
1 bounty paper towels
2 playtex handsaver gloves
2 SM mounting squares
2 pillsbury refrigerated pie crusts
retail price before sales: $107.81
sale price: $60.60
i paid after coupons: $0.78
SWEET!
usually coupon snafus are NOT in my favor. this time, though, there was a crazy snafu that ended up paying for most of the things i wasn't already getting free with coupons. a few weeks ago athenos hummus had been on sale for $1, and i had a couple $1/1 coupons. i was pretty excited about free hummus, but the store was out and i had to get a rainsheck. today, there was plenty of hummus in stock, so i got my five i expected to be free. well, for some reason after the manager helped my cashier ring up the hummus at the raincheck price, when he scanned the coupons i had for it, each one took off $3.79, which was the non-raincheck price of the hummus. i didn't catch this at the store, because i was focused on dealing with the manager in sorting out which toothbrushes were part of the mega deal. so, i ended up getting "paid" to buy the hummus, and that paid for almost all of my other stuff!
in quilting news, this past week i got to "test" an embroidery pattern that michelle brown will be selling soon in her etsy shop, kiss kiss kiddo. i got two patterns, but only stitched up the little girl above. isn't she cute? i think i may make her into a tiny wallhanging for miss emily.
i also got five of my six blocks done for the 4th quarter 3x6 bee:
i got stumped on the last block because of color choices, but i think i have the fabrics picked out now!

How in the world do you do that. You are going to have to sit down with me one day and teach me. I sure could use the money saving tips right about now.
Love the blocks :)
Honestly! I don't know how you do it. I started paying attention to coupons and they are all like 50 cents off if you buy two at $4.00 or something ridiculous like that.
Okay, next time I'm taking you grocery shopping with me! What a deal!!!!
Your bee blocks are beautiful:)
